Preface
In the ongoing evolution and development of human society, global climate change
has emerged as a significant and far-reaching issue that cannot be ignored. Currently, the
accelerated melting of glaciers, both in scale and rate, has drawn widespread attention. Mas-
sive freshwater inflows into oceans pose a threat to the stability of global sea levels. The
frequency of extreme weather events has risen markedly—torrential rains trigger catastroph-
ic floods submerging vast areas and destroying critical infrastructure; prolonged droughts
Global Climate Change and Its Impacts lead to reduced crop yields and food security crises; increasingly intense hurricanes batter
coastal regions, causing severe casualties and economic losses. Ecosystem balance has been
disrupted, with species habitats damaged and numerous rare species facing extinction risks,
resulting in significant biodiversity decline. Socioeconomic structures also suffer impacts as
climate-dependent industries like agriculture and tourism experience direct effects, with pro-
duction activities hindered and economic growth decelerated. Climate change is profoundly
transforming multiple dimensions ofreshapingEarth’s ecosystem.
This book aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the complex phenomenon of global
climate change. Through progressive elaboration from the scientific foundations of climate
change, the evidence for its occurrence, and its impacts, to response strategies and future
prospects, it systematically unfolds the discussion. Against the backdrop of rapid technolog-
ical development, climate change research continues to achieve new breakthroughs, such as
improved accuracy of climate models and advancements in greenhouse gas monitoring tech-
nologies. However, numerous scientific questions and challenges persist, including incom-
plete understanding of certain climate feedback mechanisms and significant uncertainties in
predicting regional variations of climate change. By systematically organizing and analyzing
relevant content, this book attempts to construct a comprehensive and profound knowledge
framework of climate change. This will not only help professionals deepen their understand-
