IV. Postures of Chen Taijiquan Routine II (Cannon Fist)

slightly higher than the right shoulder, the heart of fist facing right and up, the right
elbow aligning with the right knee; and the left one twining reversely pushes left and
down, outside the left hip, the heart of fist facing left and down. The arms are round-
ed, leaving the armpits empty. The eyes look left and forward. (Figure 49-1)
                      2. Relax the right hip joint, and turn the torso right, with the weight shifting
left. At the same time, the right fist twining directly withdraws in an outer arc to rest
in front of the abdomen, the heart of fist facing up, the eye of fist facing forward, the
right elbow protruding; and the left fist twining directly closes inward in an outer arc
to the upper front of the left chest, the heart of fist facing in, the left elbow dropping
and aligning with the left knee. The eyes look right and forward. (Figure 49-2)

                                   Figure 49-1 Figure 49-2

                      3. The weight shifts onto the left leg. The right knee rises, and the right foot
twining reversely withdraws to stamp flatly on the ground inside the left one. (Figure
                 49-3)
Without a pause, the left foot twining reversely kicks right and forward (south-
west) with the heel on the ground, the toes turned in and up. (Figure 49-4)
                      4. With the heel first, and then the ball pivoting, the right foot turns out, the
toes pointing west, the body turning 450 degrees right to face southwest. At the
same time, with the heel off the ground, the left foot twining reversely sweeps
forward and right in an outer arc on the ball, the toes pointing west by south, the
right one in front. With the left elbow closing in, the fists twining directly cross at
wrist in front of the chest, the hearts of fists facing in, the left one outside the right.
Baihui (GV20) is gently pulled up, with the back remaining straight. The eyes look
                 forward (southwest). (Figure 49-5)
