Afterword

This book is the second product of the author’s Taijiquan translation research.
First of all, I would like to thank my first teachers of Chen Taijiquan, Mr. Ma
Junlin, Head of the Xiqing Park Coaching Station under the Chen Taijiquan Com-
mittee of Shijiazhuang Wushu Association, and Mr. Zhang Junfeng, Assistant Head
of the Coaching Station, who led me into the Chen Taijiquan world that I dreamed
of, and made me feel the yin-yang balance with spiral and circular movements.
Special thanks go to Mr. Yang Hefa, Chairman of Shijiazhuang Wushu Association,
Director of Shijiazhuang Chen Taijiquan Committee and President of Shijiazhuang
Chen Taijiquan School. In 2011, at the 7th National Traditional Chen Taijiquan
Workshop, Mr. Yang decomposed every posture, with the focus on the strength
channel and applications of each movement, which made me have a deeper and
more comprehensive understanding of Routine II (Cannon Fist). During my years
of practicing Chen Taijiquan, Mr Niu Junjie, the former president of Shijiazhuang
Chen Taijiquan Committee, gave me a lot of guidance, and I would like to express
                 my deep gratitude to him.
This book is mainly based on the author’s notes and perceptions from his
years of Chen Taijiquan study and practice, featuring minute instructions of Chen
Taiji Ma Hong Lineage teachers. The author also draws on a large number of En-
glish Taijiquan books published at home and abroad and Taijiquan materials online,
coupled with his own understanding of the Chen Taijiquan theory and movements,
to make some creative English expressions. When I was not sure about the English
expressions of some Taijiquan terms, I consulted Luke Joseph Lane, Amir Mehdi
Zargar, Nykki Lane or Brian David Gaither, foreign teachers with Hebei Normal
University. I am grateful for their enthusiastic help.
Although the book has been revised several times, there are inevitably some
shortcomings in it. Any comment or suggestion is warmly welcome from Taijiquan
                 teachers, colleagues and practitioners.
                                                                               Lin Jiming
                                                                               Aug. 2021
