Preface

序

Chinese traditional Wushu, as a national sport, has evolved for thou-
sands of years. Mixed with arts and religions, it has developed from a
means of individual self-defense and national resistance in the cold weap-

on era into a cultural form with multiple values integrating skills of attack,
body building and art. As an important form of culture, it is equal in weight

to Traditional Chinese Medicine, Peking opera, Chinese painting, tea art,
calligraphy, and traditional folk music. Wushu, through various activities

and side-line products, plays an essential role in telling Chinese stories, en-
hancing cultural identity, thus promoting international cultural exchanges

and cooperation.
作为民族传统运动项目，传统武术经过几千年的陶冶嬗变，经

过与艺术、宗教等的渗透交融，已由冷兵器时代个体自卫和民族抗争
的有效手段逐步升华为融技击性、健身性、艺术性于一体的价值功能

多元的文化形态，成为中华优秀传统文化的重要组成部分，是与中
医、京剧、国画、茶艺、书法、民族传统音乐等量齐观的民族文化瑰
宝。在与其他国家的文化交流与合作中，武术文化成为文化传播的纽

带。通过武术文化产品和各种活动讲好中国故事，可以增强文化认同

Among the various traditional styles, Cangzhou Wushu is drawing

increasing attention from home and abroad for its long history, legends,

unique style, health preservation, and its art of attack. It has attracted for-
eign enthusiasts to learn and practise Wushu in China, thus deepening their

understanding of Chinese traditional culture. Tian Xiufeng, a representative
