Chapter 4 Adaptation Measures to Address Global Climate Change

internet, and community outreach, covering topics such as heatwave protection, infectious
disease prevention, and food safety. Create vivid science popularization videos and informa-
tional brochures to teach practical skills for addressing climate-related health issues, such as
proper heatstroke prevention during extreme heat and ensuring drinking water safety after
floods. Develop tailored health education programs for different demographics: emphasize
heat-related illness prevention and chronic disease management for elderly populations; use
engaging activities and cartoon illustrations to cultivate healthy habits and self-protection
awareness in children. Organize health lectures, knowledge competitions, and other activities
in schools, communities, and workplaces to boost public engagement and strengthen collec-
                 tive health consciousness.
Promote public participation in public health actions. Encourage active public involve-
ment in disease surveillance, such as establishing community health monitoring points to
guide residents in voluntarily reporting health abnormalities. In infectious disease prevention
and control, advocate for public cooperation with epidemic prevention measures including
mask-wearing, social distancing, and vaccination. Establish public feedback mechanisms
to collect opinions and suggestions on public health work, enabling timely adjustment of
strategies. For instance, during heatwave responses, gather public feedback on heat preven-
tion measures through social media, and optimize the setup of public cooling centers while
enhancing services based on community needs. Through strengthened health education and
public engagement, foster a collaborative societal atmosphere to address climate change-re-
lated public health challenges, thereby enhancing the public health system’s climate adapta-
                 tion capabilities.

III. Prevention and Control Strategies for Climate Change-Related
                 Diseases

                     (1) A. Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Strategies
Vaccine research and development plays a central role in infectious disease prevention
and control. To address vector-borne diseases caused by climate change, such as malaria,
dengue fever,Zika virusVaccine research and development plays a central role in infectious
disease prevention and control. For vector-borne diseases caused by climate change such
as malaria, dengue fever, and Zika virus, increased investment in vaccine R&D is crucial.
Given the expanding transmission scope and growing severity of these diseases, research
institutions and pharmaceutical enterprises should collaborate closely. On one hand, in-depth
studies of pathogens’ biological characteristics, pathogenic mechanisms, and their interac-
tions with vectors should be conducted to establish a solid theoretical foundation for vaccine
development. For example, regarding Plasmodium, research should focus on its mutation
patterns under different climatic conditions and the transmission mechanisms of Anopheles
mosquitoes carrying malaria parasites, thereby identifying key targets for vaccine develop-
ment. On the other hand, advanced biotechnologies such as genetic engineering and recom-
