A Study on the Role of UGC Platforms in Copyright Law: Appendix 6 Interview Record (Participant E)
              An Intermediary-oriented Approach

                 about this?
Participant E: Yeah. Sometimes I collected the football team's shot moments to make a
compilation which is accompanied by music.
Huang: Where does the music come from?
Participant E: I downloaded. Haha, you must say it concerns with copyright.
Huang: Have you ever thought of asking for a permission?
Participant E: To be honest, the answer is no. For one, the scope of dissemination is quite
small. For another, I just operate my account for non-profit purpose.
Huang: Do you think it constitute fair use?
              Participant E: Well, it depends.
Huang: So you think your use of music can hardly be discovered due to the small scope of
                 dissemination?
              Participant E: That’s it.

Huang: Which website you used to uploading your content?
Participant E: My own public account. And sometimes I insert an authorized song from QQ
                 Music.
Huang: What do you mean by authorized?
Participant E: QQ music has bought the copyright and WeChat gets the authorization from
QQ music. Then the song can be shared by several friends.
Huang: How do you know that your scope of dissemination is small?
Participant E: The amount of reading of our article in the law school’s account reaches 200
to 300 on average. You can see the amount of reading at the end of the article. Only if
you click and read can it count. One person can only count one time even if you read it
                 repeatedly.

Huang: Right now there is a heated debate over whether the “moment” in WeChat constitute
the public. What do you think?
Participant E: Well, I just provide some very immature personal thoughts. I don’t think the
moment can be regarded as the public since only your friends can see your information.
Huang: But what if you have many friends and they all can see your moment?
Participant E: Oh, I know what you mean. For instance, the teachers in the university may
have many friends that can see their moment. Every message they post in their moment
may have great influences. En, in this case, the moment may be regarded as the public.
Huang: So you think it depends on the number of the friends?
Participant E: Yes, it depends. If a person’s moment has great influence, his speech may be
                 regulated by the law.

Huang: I am very interested in the music. Would you mind telling me more about it?
