A Study on the Role of UGC Platforms in Copyright Law: Appendix 5 Interview Record (Participant D)
 An Intermediary-oriented Approach

Participant D: Thank you for your knowledge. Every time I write something, ultimately it
will be changed in a way I don’t like it, so I do not mind too much. The content itself is
seemingly less important than the layout, so I am accustomed to. But it does dampen the
enthusiasm of the original creator. After beginning to work, I don't really want to write
                    something. Just for work.
Huang: You are welcome. I have subscribed your account and read some articles. The
signature is “CCTV Traditional Drama and Quyi (央视戏曲).” It may be regarded as
work for legal entity. Actually, “work for legal entity” is a category that has raised heated
debate in the academia. Many scholars argued that this category is the residue of planned
                    economy and should be abandoned.
Participant D: That’s it. But this is the media for the party. Nothing can I do. After staying
here for a time, I have almost forgotten that I had been learning in Guangzhou.

Huang: Have your articles been reproduced by other public accounts or paper media? Would
they ask for your permission in advance?
Participant D: Yes, they will ask for permission.
Huang: Who is the major reproducer, Internet or paper media? Will they pay you?
Participant D: Printing media is the majority. They will indicate the source, but without
                    payment.

Participant D: Honestly, most often the work is not merely written by myself. And I don’t
want to put my names on the articles that revised by others.
Huang: Yeah, I have read your articles and I cannot see much personal colors.

Huang: Is there any competitive account?
Participant D: Well, I think there is no other media can compete with us in this field.
Traditional drama and quyi is an endangered industry and CCTV is the monopoly.
Huang: Although we encourages the initiative role of the market and spontaneous
order, governments should take the responsibility in guiding. CCTV did make some
contribution to the development of folk art.
Participant D: It is difficult to make money by Chinese traditional drama and quyi. So we
manage to use this planned economy way to keep the industry alive. But I don’t know
what is the reason what is the result.

Participant D: It seems that a work will really change a person. Half a year ago, I was still
dreaming of dancing with shackles, saying my own words by this platform. Now I'm
                    feeling down to reality.
Huang: Have you ever thought of having your own business in the future? Creative industries
have developed quickly during recent years.
