of hands, eyes, body, and footwork. The rapid practice of Routine II can make the
cooperation gradually reflexive, thus developing more agile and flexible move-
ments.
Chen Taijiquan contains two routines: Routine I emphasizes softness and
diverting; Routine II focuses on explosive force emitting. Both have their own
distinctive characteristics, and a practitioner should not stick to only one. Only
by combining the two routines will he master the whole skills and applications of
Chen Taijiquan.
