IV. Postures of Chen Taijiquan Routine II (Cannon Fist)
slightly directly pull left and down in a concave curve, with the right one in front of
the abdomen, and the left elbow aligning with the left knee, the hearts of fists fac-
ing in, the eyes of fists facing up. The eyes look right and forward. (Figure 52-1)
With the shoulder joints pivoting, the arms twining reversely swing backward,
left, up, forward, right and down, the fists smashing down in front of the chest,
the hearts of fists facing in, the eyes of fists facing up, the left elbow aligning with
the left knee. With the knees leading energy, the feet jump up by means of the re-
bounding force from the ground, the crotch sinking down, the body turning about
90 degrees right in the air. As the feet land on the ground, the left one is in front, a
left-weighted, front bow-stance formed, the torso facing northwest. (Figure 52-2)

2. With the knees leading energy, the feet jump up by means of the rebounding
force from the ground, the crotch sinking down, the fists twining directly withdraw
to pause in front of the abdomen in a concave curve. As the feet land, the fists twin-
ing reversely smash forward in a convex curve, the hearts of fists facing in, the eyes
of fists facing up, the left elbow aligning with the left knee, the right fist in front of
the chest. The left-weighted, front bow-stance remains. The eyes look forward (west).

Note: This posture ends with the left foot in front, smashing the right side of the
opponent, hence the name “Right Dash”. Mirror Posture 51.
Posture 53 Dao Cha (Thrust Backward)
1. Relax the right hip joint, and turn the torso right, with the weight shifting
right. At the same time, with the fists twining directly, the left one strikes down
and left, to the left front of the left chest, and the right one pulls up and backward,
