04. The Double Ninth Festival 重阳节
The Double Ninth Festival, also named Chongyang Festival, falls on the ninth day
of the ninth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, hence it gets name of Double Ninth
Festival.

重阳节，也叫重九节，因在每年的农历九月初九日，因而得名“重九节”。
Legends 传说
Once there was a man named Huan Jing, who believed that a monster would bring

pestilence. He told his countrymen to hide on a hill while he went to defeat the monster.
Later, people celebrated Huan Jing›s defeat of the monster on the ninth day of the ninth.
从前有一个人叫桓景，他认为是恶魔带来了瘟疫，叫村民藏入山中，他自己
去打败了恶魔。后来人们庆祝桓景打败恶魔的日子——九月初九日。

Customs 习俗
The Double Ninth Festival is usually perfect for outdoor activities. Many people
go hiking and climbing in the countryside. On this day, people will eat Double Ninth
Cake. Enjoying the flourishing chrysanthemum also becomes a key activity on this

festival.
重阳节适合外出活动，人们去野外郊游或登山。重阳节，人们吃重阳糕、观
赏菊花。
05. The Qixi Festival 七夕节
The Qixi Festival, also known as the the Qiqiao Festival, is a Chinese festival that

celebrates the annual meeting of the Niulang and Zhinü in Chinese mythology. It falls
on the seventh day of the 7th month on the Chinese calendar. It is sometimes called the
Double Seventh Festival, the Chinese Valentine›s Day.

七夕节，也叫乞巧节，每年农历七月初七，是庆祝中国传说中的牛郎织女相
会的节日。七夕节，也叫七月七，是“中国的情人节”。
