Global Climate Change and Its Impacts
3. Community Actions and Environmental Projects
Community actions and environmental projects are crucial pathways to enhance public
climate awareness and motivation to act. By organizing community environmental activities
and initiatives, they strengthen public environmental consciousness and engagement. For in-
stance, communities can organize tree planting, waste sorting, and energy-saving and emis-
sion-reduction activities to help the public understand the practical impacts of climate change
and corresponding solutions. Communities may also implement environmental projects such
as community gardens, green buildings, and renewable energy promotion to elevate environ-
mental awareness and action. Additionally, through community action plans, communities
can encourage the public to design and execute climate action projects, such as community
energy-saving retrofits and green transportation initiatives, thereby enhancing public climate
literacy and innovative capabilities.
(3) Challenges and Improvements in Climate Education
Although climate education plays a crucial role in enhancing public climate awareness,
its implementation still faces numerous challenges. First, there is a shortage of climate ed-
ucation resources and qualified teachers. Many schools and communities lack specialized
climate education curricula and instructors, making it difficult to effectively deliver climate
education. Second, the content and delivery methods of climate education require further
innovation to meet the needs of diverse age groups and backgrounds. For example, cli-
mate education for children and adolescents should emphasize fun and interactivity, while
adult-focused education should prioritize practicality and participatory engagement. Finally,
assessment and feedback mechanisms for climate education need refinement to ensure its
effectiveness and sustainability. For instance, schools and communities could use surveys,
interviews, and project evaluations to gather public feedback and needs, thereby continuous-
ly improving the content and methods of climate education.
4. Future Prospects: Deepening International Cooperation in Climate Education
Although climate education faces numerous challenges, its role in global climate gov-
ernance remains irreplaceable. In the future, the international community needs to deepen
cooperation in the following aspects to promote further development of climate education:
1. Strengthen Resource and Faculty Support
The international community should enhance resource and faculty support to provide
necessary guarantees for climate education. Developed countries should offer climate educa-
tion resources and teacher training to developing countries through multilateral and bilateral
channels, helping them achieve universalization and improvement of climate education. For
example, through the “Horizon 2020” program, the EU provides climate education resources
and faculty training to developing countries in Africa and Asia, assisting them in populariz-
ing and enhancing climate education.
