Communication across Cultures
Example: “It was a team effort. I had help from my colleagues, and without their
support, I wouldn’t have made it.”
Both styles have their own cultural and individual variations, and neither style
is inherently good or bad. Cultural factors, societal expectations, and self-perception
can shape an individual’s preferred communication style. It’s important to note that
a balanced approach, where individuals acknowledge and take pride in their accom-
plishments while remaining humble and aware of their limitations, can lead to healthy
self-perception and effective communication.
5.4.3 Elaborate, Exacting and Succinct Styles
The difference between elaborate, exacting, and succinct communication styles lies
in the level of detail and conciseness with which individuals express themselves.

In an elaborate communication style, individuals tend to provide extensive details,
explanations, and examples when expressing their thoughts, ideas, or opinions. They
may provide background information and elaborate on various aspects of a topic to en-

descriptive language and storytelling techniques to convey their message effectively.
Example: “Let me explain in detail how this project came together. First, we con-

formed a cross-functional team comprising members from different departments, each
contributing their unique expertise...”
2) Exacting Style
In an exacting communication style, individuals focus on precision, accuracy, and
attention to detail. They strive to convey their message with exactness, ensuring that
their information is factual and their expectations are clear. Exacting communicators
may use specific guidelines, measurements, or specifications to convey their message
effectively.
Example: “I need this report by 5:00 p.m. today. It should be 10 pages long, sin-
gle-spaced, with no more than 12-point font. Please include data from the past three
years and a detailed analysis of the trends observed.”
3) Succinct Style
In a succinct communication style, individuals prioritize brevity and clarity. They
express their thoughts, information, or opinions concisely, conveying the key points
without unnecessary elaboration. Succinct communicators often use concise language,
