get straight to the point, and avoid excessive details or digressions.
Example: “We need to increase our sales. I suggest launching a targeted marketing
campaign focused on younger demographics to improve brand awareness and customer
engagement.”
The choice of communication style depends on factors such as the complexity of
the topic, the audience, and the desired outcome. It’s important to adjust the style to en-
sure effective communication and message comprehension.
5.4.4 Personal and Contextual Styles
The difference between personal and contextual communication styles lies in the
emphasis placed on individual experiences versus the surrounding circumstances or
context when expressing thoughts, feelings, and ideas.
1) Personal Style
In a personal communication style, individuals tend to focus on their own thoughts,
feelings, and experiences when communicating. They emphasize personal opinions,
preferences, and subjective viewpoints. Personal communicators may draw from per-
sonal anecdotes, emotions, or beliefs to convey their message, and they value self-ex-
pression and individuality.
Example: “In my experience, I found that meditation greatly reduced my stress lev-
els and improved my overall well-being.”
2) Contextual Style
In a contextual communication style, individuals pay significant attention to the
broader context, including environmental factors, social norms, and cultural influences,
when conveying their thoughts or ideas. Contextual communicators take into account
the perspectives and needs of others and adjust their message accordingly. They may
consider the situational factors and the impact of their words on the overall context.
Example: “Considering the current market trends and customer expectations, it
would be beneficial for our company to focus on implementing sustainable practices
and promoting eco-friendly products.”
Both personal and contextual styles have their merits and can be appropriate de-
pending on the situation and audience. Effective communication often involves finding
a balance between personal expression and contextual sensitivity. Being aware of the
audience and adjusting the communication style can help ensure that the message is
well-received and understood within the given context.
