Chapter 1 Carbon Asset Management Practice

quality evaluation system: source, type and time. For all on-site data and background
data, the data source, data time, data type, etc. shall be described in detail for data qual-
ity evaluation. The data quality evaluation shall adopt 5-point quantitative evaluation
(3 items with a cumulative maximum of 15 points). The quality of the carbon footprint
data of a process (combination) consisting of a plurality of unit processes is obtained
by calculating a weighted average score of all the unit process carbon footprint data
included therein. Sensitivity analysis or uncertainty analysis shall be carried out for the
data with poor quality, and the possible impact on the final result caused by relevant
factors such as the neglected process of product life cycle, neglected field data and
main assumptions shall be checked, and whether the selection of background data, col-
lection and processing of field data meet the standard requirements shall be explained.
Generally, the data with a unit process carbon footprint accounting for more than 10%
of the product life cycle carbon footprint is referred to as highly sensitive data, and the
data quality should be constrained, with a score of preferably more than 3 points. In
addition, for the data that is really unavailable and the contribution of the data to the
whole is small and negligible, it is generally recommended that ordinary materials < 1%
               and rare materials < 0.1%.
2.2.2 analysis of existing problems and challenges

Facing the current complex international relations and increasingly fierce compe-
tition in the international low-carbon economy, the establishment of a sound carbon
footprint assessment system is an inevitable choice for China’s green and low-carbon
development under the background of carbon neutrality. Although the academic defi-
nition of carbon footprint has not been completely unified, it is more likely to be de-
scribed from the whole life cycle, and the reference standard, boundary demarcation
and data acquisition method are determined based on specific research objects and data
acquisition difficulty. In China, the research on micro-level carbon footprint, including
product level, started relatively late, and the carbon footprint assessment method based
on the life cycle assessment method is still in the initial stage. Building an accurate and
standardized carbon footprint assessment technology system in various industries and
accurately understanding the “carbon background” is the key to achieving scientific and
accurate carbon reduction in various industries. Accounting direct and indirect carbon
emissions caused by fuel combustion, material revenue and expenditure and output in
the production process, net purchase of electricity and heat in the whole process from
the perspective of the whole life cycle is the technical guarantee for the implementa-
