IV. Postures of Chen Taijiquan Routine II (Cannon Fist)
5. Relax the right hip joint, and turn the torso right, with the weight shifting
left. At the same time, with the heel pivoting, the right foot turns 75 degrees out on
the ball. With their bases sinking, the left palm twining directly and the right one
reversely pull right in a concave curve. The left palm ends up in front of the chest,
facing up, with the fingers pointing up, left and forward; and the right one outside
the right leg, slightly below the left, facing out, with the fingers pointing up to the
left front. The palms maintain a forearm-length separation between them. The eyes
look left and forward. (Figure 2-5)
6. Relax the hip joints. Move the crotch right in a shallow concave curve to
shift the weight onto the right leg.
Without a pause, sink the right hip, and lift the left knee twining reversely,
close to the left elbow. (Figure 2-6)

7. Turn the torso left. At the same time, the left palm twining reversely and the
right one directly arc down and left over the left knee, with the left knee twining
slightly reversely to rise higher. The eyes look down to the left front. (Figure 2-7)
8. Turn the torso right. At the same time, with the toes turned up and in, the
left foot twining reversely slide-steps left and forward (northwest) on the inside
heel, with the weight sinking low. The left palm twining directly and the right one
reversely pull up and right in a convex curve, with the left shoulder protruding and
the elbows dropping. The left palm ends in front of the mouth, facing up and right,
with the fingers pointing up and left; and the right one to the right front of the right
shoulder, facing out, with the fingers pointing up and left. The palms have a fore-
arm-length separation between them, with the left one slightly over the right. As the
