An Intermediary-oriented Approach
get a quick response?
Participant C: Generally we will contact with them through Wechat, which is the common
practice of our company. But as I told you before, we don’t need to negotiate with the
movie companies until our account gets enough popularity.
Huang: So your company is in the creative industry?
Participant C: Dushe Movie (毒舌电影)
Huang: Oh, I love it! What a pity that it has been forced out!
Participant C: Yes, but for political reasons, not copyright problem.
Huang: Exactly. A large part of censorship in China is a political rather than legal issue.
Huang: So you are a new base after the “Dushe Movie” being closed?
Participant C: Haha, we are a little part of it, very insignificant. You can subscribe our
company’s new account “Sir Movie”, as a continuation of the original account “Dushe
Movie.”
Huang: Subscribed. How many fans of this new account till now?
Participant C: Nearly one million.
Huang: Super quick! Where there is oppression there is resistance.
Participant C: All about interests.
Huang: How many fans of your own account?
Participant C: Only 300.
Huang: Relax. You are a new-born account. Plus, I guess your company will help promotion.
Participant C: Only when our works are good enough to them. So I am still improving, with
the risks of getting fired anytime.
Huang: Not a single walk of life is easy.
Participant C: If you like it, stick to it, no matter which company I work for. Fame is just an
accident, but movie is a life-long career.
Huang: God bless you. Plum blossom from the bitter cold. I think we are living in a good
time. The flattened Internet Era has provided many opportunities for the grassroots.
Huang: Thank you very much for your time and help. You did provide a lot of useful
information for my research.
Participant C: Very happy to help.
Huang: Are you living in Shunde now? I wonder if possible, can we have a face to face chat
in early August when I visit Shunde? I really hope to hear your story.
Participant C: No problem. Yaofeng told me about it. See you.
Huang: See you.
