Means: Shiqiao Zhongshan Restaurant, No.92 Kanghua Road, Zhongshan, Guangdong
Province
Interviewee: Participant C, the founder of a WeChat public account
Interviewer: Huang Weijie
Huang: Nice to meet you! My name is Weijie Huang. I am doing my Ph.D. study on
intellectual property right in the Faculty of Law, University of Hong Kong. My Ph.D.
thesis is about UGC (User-Generated Content) and copyright. UGC is content that
created by amateurs rather than professional creators, such as WeChat public account,
fanfictions, parodies, remixes, samplings, etc. Attached is the post for my previous
interview, which can help me understand my research purpose. Briefly, I would like to
discuss the inherent conflict between the convenience of copying and exclusiveness of
copyright. I heard that you are operating a WeChat public account on movie parodies. I
watched some of your movies and found them really funny and relevant to my research.
Sorry to bug you, do you mind if I ask you a few questions on some basic information
about your WeChat account?
Participant C: Sure.
Huang: Hong long have you operated this account? Do you have a team? How many
teammates do you have? Can you earn some profit now? Have you asked for permission
for using others’ movie to make a parody?
Participant C: 17 days. We are a team of two people. No profit yet. No permission yet.
Huang: What a new account! What’s your motivation to start this account?
Participant C: Hope someone likes me.
Huang: Like the Internet celebrity?
Participant C: Not that much. I just hope some movie fans like me.
Huang: Have you guys learned some editing and dubbing skills? Is it relevant to your major
in university?
Participant C: Yeah, we were majored in Literature of Theatre Film & Television (戏剧影
视文学)
Huang: Were you guys from the same university?
Participant C: Yep. We are in a bunk-bed relationship.
