III. Hand Forms, Stances and Footwork of Chen Taijiquan Routine II (Cannon Fist)
8. Side bow-stance
Both feet stand apart with one in the left
and the other in the right. One leg is bent,
with the toes turned out at a 45-degree angle,
the knee pointing in the same direction as the
toes, but not exceeding them. The other leg
extends to the other side, slightly bent, with
the toes half a foot back and turned in. The
crotch is rounded. With the right leg bent, a
right-weighted, side bow-stance is formed;
with the left one bent, a left-weighted, side
bow-stance is formed.
9. Crouching stance
Stand in a side bow-stance and squat all
the way down onto the weighted leg while
the other stretches straight, the back kept
straight. If the left leg stretches straight, it is
a right-weighted crouching stance; if the right
leg stretches straight, it is a left-weighted
crouching stance.
10. Empty stance
Sink straight down, with one foot in
front and the other at back. The toes of the
front foot touch the ground, the weight on the
rear leg. When the left foot is in front, it is a
right-weighted empty stance; when the right
foot is in front, it is a left-weighted empty
stance.
