IV. Postures of Chen Taijiquan Routine II (Cannon Fist)
in the direction of the punch in last movement (west by north), the wrist flexed in,
with mingmen (GV4) slightly expanded. (Figure 18-1)
2. With the weight shifting onto the right leg, sink the right hip, turn the torso
slightly right, and lift the left knee twining reversely. At the same time, the right fist
twining directly withdraws in a concave curve to rest against the right waist with
the ring of fist; the left half-clenched fist makes fist, twining reversely to rotate out,
the face of fist against the left rib, the left elbow aligning with the left knee. The
eyes look left. (Figure 18-2)

3. The left foot kicks left (west) with the heel, the toes pointing up.
Without a pause, as the left foot lands on the ground, the weight shifts onto the
left leg. With the body turning left, the right foot takes a big step and the left one
turns out on the ball to form a right-weighted, side bow-stance. The right fist twin-
ing reversely punches west, the heart of fist facing down. (Figure 18-3)
4. The right fist twining reversely withdraws in to rest against the right rib
with the face of fist; and the left palm twining directly thrusts to end in front of the
right chest, facing up and left.
Without a pause, the weight shifts onto the right foot. With the heel pivoting,
the right foot twining reversely closes in, the body turning about 315 degrees left,
the torso facing north; with the heel off the ground, the left foot twining directly
sweeps out and backward on the ball, forming a left-weighted, side bow-stance, the
right foot half a foot forward. At the same time, the left palm twining reversely arcs
out and backward to the left front of the left eye, facing out, the fingers pointing up
to the left front; with the right fist remaining in its place, the right elbow twining
reversely closes in. The eyes look right and forward (northeast). (Figure 18-4)
