IV. Postures of Chen Taijiquan Routine II (Cannon Fist)
opened. The left knee rises, and the left foot twining reversely kicks left (east) with
heel. The eyes look left. (Figure 26-4)
5. With the ball of the right foot pivoting, the body turns 90 degrees right, the
torso facing west. The left knee twining reversely rises and closes in, the left foot
hanging down. With the right shoulder joint pivoting, the right palm twining direct-
ly arcs down and in to form a “grasp” in front of the abdomen, facing up, the little
finger gently touching the abdomen, hukou facing left and forward, the right elbow
protruding, leaving the armpit open. With the left shoulder joint pivoting, the left
palm twining firstly directly and then reversely arcs up and forward to pat down,
facing down and forward, level with the shoulder, the left elbow aligning with the
left knee. The eyes look forward (west). (Figure 26-5)

And in Movement 5, the body turns 90 degrees right, the torso facing west, with the
left knee twining reversely to rise and close in, like riding a kylin backward, hence
the name.
Posture 27 Bai She Tu Xin (Snake Flicks Tongue) [I]
1. The left foot steps left and forward (southwest), with the heel landing on the
ground, the weight sinking, and the torso turning slightly right. At the same time,
the left palm twining slightly reversely withdraws in, and the right one twining
directly thrusts up and forward. The right palm overtops the left one, back to back,
with the fingers pointing forward. (Figure 27-1)
2. Move the crotch in a shallow concave curve to shift the weight forward,
