Chapter Three Impacts of Global Climate Change
support for addressing climate change. In terms of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) tech-
nology, capturing carbon dioxide during industrial production processes and transporting it
to suitable locations for storage can effectively reduce the amount of CO2 emitted into the
atmosphere. Currently, some large power plants and cement factories have begun pilot ap-
plications of CCS technology, injecting captured carbon dioxide into deep underground geo-
logical formations for long-term storage. Regarding addressing sea-level rise, engineering
technical measures are equally important. Constructing coastal protection projects such as
seawalls and breakwaters in coastal areas enhances the coastal zone’s ability to resist storm
surges and seawater erosion. Simultaneously, implementing integrated coastal zone manage-
ment and rationally planning land use in coastal areas avoids overdevelopment in vulnerable
regions. In water resource management, developing and applying advanced water utilization
technologies such as seawater desalination technology, sewage treatment and reuse technol-
ogy. Seawater desalination technology can convert seawater into usable freshwater resourc-
es, alleviating water shortages in coastal areas; sewage treatment and reuse technology can
improve the recycling efficiency of water resources, reduce water waste, and enhance the
adaptability of water resource systems to climate change.
In addition to the aforementioned strategies, international cooperation and social par-
ticipation must be strengthened. Climate change is a global issue that no single country can
resolve independently. Countries should enhance cooperation under international frame-
works such as the Paris Agreement to jointly address climate change challenges. Developed
nations should provide financial, technological, and capacity-building support to developing
countries to improve their climate change resilience. Meanwhile, social organizations, enter-
prises, and the public should be encouraged to actively participate in climate action. Social
organizations can conduct awareness campaigns to improve public understanding of climate
change and environmental consciousness; enterprises should fulfill social responsibilities by
promoting green production and sustainable development; citizens can contribute through
daily actions like eco-friendly commuting and energy conservation. By comprehensively
implementing prevention principles, ecological conservation, engineering interventions, and
enhancing international collaboration and social engagement, we can establish a comprehen-
sive multi-tiered response system. This will minimize the long-term cumulative impacts and
irreversible consequences of climate change, creating favorable conditions for the sustain-
able development of Earth’s ecosystems and human society.
