Chapter 6 Climate education for the public
dressing climate change. Through concrete measures such as campus greening, employee
volunteer programs, and green technology innovation, schools, universities, and enterprises
not only improve their own operational environments but also generate positive impacts on
communities and society.
(1) Social Responsibility of Educational Institutions
Educational institutions, including schools and universities, possess unique advantages
in advancing climate action. They serve not only as disseminators of knowledge but also as
shapers of social values. By integrating sustainable development principles into education-
al systems, these institutions can cultivate a new generation equipped with environmental
awareness and climate action capabilities.
[1] Campus Greening and Sustainable Development Education
Many schools and universities integrate sustainability principles into their daily opera-
tions through campus greening initiatives. For instance, Tsinghua University has established
multiple green ecological zones on its campus, including rainwater harvesting systems, solar
power installations, and organic farms. These projects not only reduce campus carbon emis-
sions but also provide students with opportunities to practice sustainable development. Ad-
ditionally, Tsinghua University offers numerous courses on climate change and sustainable
development to cultivate students’ environmental awareness and capacity for action.
【2】Climate Change Education and Public Engagement
Educational institutions disseminate climate science knowledge to students and the
public through climate change education. For example, Peking University offers a “Climate
Change and Sustainable Development” course, attracting significant participation from stu-
dents and the general public. The curriculum covers the causes, impacts, and mitigation mea-
sures of climate change, while enhancing students’ capacity for climate action through case
studies and practical activities.
【3】Student Volunteer Programs and Community Service
Many schools and universities encourage students to participate in community environ-
mental protection activities through student volunteer programs. For example, student volun-
teers from Fudan University have organized multiple community tree-planting activities to
help improve the local ecological environment. These activities not only enhance students’
environmental awareness but also amplify the impact of climate action through community
service.
(II) Corporate Social Responsibility
In promoting climate action, enterprises are not only participants in economic activities
but also bearers of social responsibility. By implementing sustainable development princi-
ples, companies can reduce their carbon footprint and cultivate socially responsible employ-
ees through education and training.
1.Green Technology Innovationand Carbon Emission Reduction
Many enterprises reduce their carbon emissions through green technology innovations.
