night, while he was practicing martial arts, he heard a scuffling noise and
someone yelled, “Good kung fu!”. Lv Hanju stopped practice and saw a

man standing next to the tree, after talking, Lv realized that this person was
a predecessor of martial arts, passing by this place one night, seeing Lv

practicing martial arts with great skills, and observed Lv for a few days.
This person said to Lv Hanju, “Your kung fu has been perfected, but there

is still something you need to be taught.” Lv gladly agreed, and bowed
down to ask for advice, and then studied with this nightwalker. This person

came at night and left at dawn, after two years’endeavor, senior Lv ac-
complished his study. Lv asked the teacher’s name and hometown, but the
teacher did not answer, only said: “The posture you learnt is called Heyi

Tongbiquan, martial postures of our sect are never taught to outsiders, so
it is little known. One year later, you can go to Shengfang Town, Dacheng

County to ask fellow disciples, then you will know all my background.”
But in the following year, senior Lv did not find any fellow disciples, so he

taught his fellow villagers Li Dengdi and Li Dengshan. According to The
Chronicle of Jinghai County “Li Dengshan, who came from Duliu, was

famous for his Tongbiquan.” Li Dengdi had outstanding skills in Tongbi-
quan, among his disciples only Yang Xueshi take on his mantle. Yang was
a Duliu local as well, and he was famous in the county then. In The Chron-

icle of Jinghai County, it is written: “Yang Xueshi, a Duliu native, was
famous for his Slash posture.” Yang Xueshi had many disciples, among

whom Liu Yuchun, Ren Xiangrong were the best, and the Tongbiquan has
been carried forward since then.
