意动身动，身不动而自动也。据通臂拳合一门派前辈云：清乾隆年间，一
僧云游至静海独流镇，将通臂拳法传于独流镇太祖拳名家吕翰举。合一通

臂拳一世传人吕翰举，为静海独流人，家贫独居镇外，为大户人家看护菜
园、墓地，精武艺，每日夜半于墓林中习武，鲜为人知。一日夜，他练武

正在入神，闻窸窣声，并听有人喊：“好功夫！”吕翰举定神收功，始见
一人站立树旁，经交谈，方知此人为武林前辈，夜行路过此地，见有人习

武颇有功力，观察已有数日。此人谓吕翰举曰：“汝之武功已成，但还有
不到之处须经指点。”吕先辈欣然应允，并叩首请教，遂就学于夜行人。

此人夜来旦去，如是者二年，吕先辈功成。吕先辈叩问恩师姓名，家乡居
处，师皆不答，仅云：“汝所学之拳术，曰合一通臂拳，此门派为单传，

故鲜为人知。汝一年后可到大城县胜芳镇去询问同门人，吾之来历汝可尽
知矣。”但翌年吕先辈并未找到同门人，授业予乡人李登第、李登善。

《静海县志》载：“李登善独流人，通臂拳著名。”登第功纯艺精，其徒
唯杨学仕承其衣钵，其亦籍独流，时声赫乡里。《静海县志》载：“杨学

仕，独流人，以斩拳著名。”杨学仕弟子众，刘玉春、任向荣实为翘楚，
通臂拳始为光大。

Liu Yuchun, with Huiquan as his courtesy name, was born in the
tenth year of the Xianfeng era during the Qing Dynasty (1860). He was

born in the Year of the Monkey (also called Shen Hou in Chinese), so he
was commonly referred as Liu Shenye. From a young age, he had a pas- CHapter One Introduction

sion for martial arts. He was tall and strong, with a cheerful personality
and a love for socializing. He made a living as a boatman. At that time,

the transportation on the canal was thriving. Predecessor Liu Yuchun were 壹
boat owners and their boats traveled from north to south, reaching places 概述

like Tongzhou in the north and the Yellow River estuary in Shandong and
Xinxiang, Henan in the south. As a result, Liu had many opportunities to
