Wu Peifu’s and Feng Yuxiang’s forces. However, he eventually returned
to his hometown.
郭长生,字恩普,清光绪二十二年(1896年)生于沧州城内马道街,
受乡风尚武之染,少即耽武技,素负奏功之志,未及弱冠,思敏行飒,雄

力劲节已闻名邑里。郭长生十八岁时应召曹锟在保定创办的武术营,深得
原步通臂拳二十四式 刘玉春先辈器重,收为弟子,起初跟师兄岳德明学习通臂拳基本功,跟师
兄赵士奎学习劈挂拳。后郭长生先辈武功大进,刘玉春先辈以通臂拳尽授
之,并授予苗刀、戟、牛角拐、阴手枪、双龙棍等艺。直奉战争后曹锟下
野,武术营遂解散,郭长生又为吴佩孚部、冯玉祥部聘为武术教官,不久
后回到故里。
In the 17th year of the Republic of China (1928), the National Gov-
ernment established the Central Martial Arts Institute in Nanjing and hired
teachers. Guo Changsheng took the exam and got the highest score, be-
coming the top ranked, and were appointed as professor. During his work-
ing at the Martial Arts Institute, he devoted himself to teaching, using the
original techniques as the foundation, learning from others, and integrating
various postures, achieving a unique mastery. His creation of the Fengmo
Gun and the Miao Dao based on the inherited techniques of Chong Dou
was an immortal achievement, and his knowledge and skills impressed his
peers. At that time, he formed a close friendship with Ma Yingtu, a fellow
townsman from Yanshan, and they exchanged their knowledge on martial
arts, unifying various branches of Piguaquan and incorporating the waist,
footwork, and power of Tongbiquan, giving Piguaquan a brand new fea-
ture and earning it the reputation of being a unique posture of Cangzhou
Piguaquan among the martial field. Guo Changsheng had many disciples
