move being useful, and the actions are smooth, fast, and versatile. The
postures of this martial art are divided into Yuanbu 24 postures and Xing-
bu 24 postures. The Yuanbu 24 postures consist of balanced individual
movements, while the Xingbu 24 postures involve complex combinations
of four or five consecutive strikes from both sides. The footwork includes
sequential steps, twist step, attack step, and chicken-foot circular steps,
hence the saying “Although there are thousands of and countless punches,
but one cannot finish the fight with those postures against Tongbiquan.”
沧州通臂拳法,也称通臂拳二十四式,为纯技击实用拳法,虽称
二十四式,但各种招法不止二十四个。此拳法只有单打姿势,没有固定
的表演套路,演练起来不尚浮华,招招实用,动作舒展,疾速多变。拳
法分原步二十四式和行步二十四式。原步二十四式为左右并重的单操,
行步二十四式为四五个左右并重的连击动作及揣意的复杂组合。步法为
顺步、拗步、击步及鸡脚连环步,故有“千趟架子万趟拳,通臂出来一
式打不完”之说。
