Note: When lifting the left knee in Movement 4, relax the right hip joint, in-
hale, tuck in the abdomen, and draw up the anus simultaneously.
Posture 6 Ban Lan Zhou (Parry with Elbow)
1. With the torso turning slightly right, the weight shifts slightly left. At the
same time, the left leg twining reversely closes in, and the right one turns out. With
the right hook opening into a palm, the left palm twining directly and the right one
reversely, pull right in a concave curve.
Without a pause, the torso turns first left and then right. At the same time, with
the left leg turning out and the right one turning reversely to close in, the feet push
against the ground to jump up (the knees leading). As the feet land on the ground
into a left-weighted, side bow-stance, the left one slightly backward, the weight
more on the left. With the palms making into fists, around the shoulder joints, the
left one twining reversely and the right one directly arc up and left, and then the
left one twining directly and the right one reversely arc down and right. The left fist
ends in front of the abdomen, the heart of fist facing up, the eye of fist facing left,
the left elbow closing in; and the right one outside the right knee, the heart of fist
facing down, the eye of fist pointing left. The eyes look left and forward. (Figure 6-1)
2. Relax the left hip joint, and turn the torso left, with the weight shifting
slightly left. At the same time, with the stance unchanged, the feet rub-step left, the
left knee turning further out and the right one turning reversely to close further in.
The left fist twining slightly directly and the right one slightly reversely strike left
and back horizontally, with the left one ending outside the left knee, the eye of the
