IV. Postures of Chen Taijiquan Routine II (Cannon Fist)
10. Relax the left hip joint. Sink the left buttock and turn the right one, with
the torso turning left into a horse-riding stance. At the same time the left fist twin-
ing directly arcs down, in and up to end in front of the abdomen, with the heart of
fist facing in and the eye of fist facing up and forward; and the right one twining di-
rectly arcs up to strike forward and down to the upper front of the left fist, the heart
of fist facing in, the eye of fist facing up and forward. The fists have a forearm-
length separation between them. The eyes look forward (southwest). (Figure 7-10).

Note: In Movement 3, the fists pulling right and down and the left shoulder
protruding form forces in opposite directions, which embodies the principle of “the
end section directing and neutralizing while the root section advancing and strik-
ing”. In Movements 4 and 10, the fists issue a vertically twisting force.
Posture 8 Yue Bu Xie Xing (Leaping Step, Oblique Stance)
1. Relax the left hip joint. Sink the left buttock and turn the right one, with the
torso turning left, the weight shifting left into a left-weighted, side bow-stance. At
the same time, with the fists making palms, the left palm twining reversely with-
draws in to end in front of the left chest, hukou facing in, the fingers pointing down,
the left elbow protruding; the right one twining directly flicks right and forward,
facing left, hukou facing up, the right elbow dropping. The eyes look right and for-
ward. (Figure 8-1)
2. Relax the right hip joint, and turn the torso right, with the weight shifting
right into a horse-riding stance. At the same time, the right palm twining reversely
arcs up and in to end in front of the left chest, facing left, hukou facing in; the left one
twining directly thrusts down and forward, facing right, hukou facing up. (Figure 8-2)
