IV. Postures of Chen Taijiquan Routine II (Cannon Fist)
Posture 22 Gao Tan Ma (High Pat on Horse)
1. Relax the right hip joint, and turn the torso slightly right, with the weight
shifting slightly left. At the same time, the left palm twining reversely and the right
one directly sink their bases.
Without a pause, relax the left hip joint, and turn the torso left. With the heel
pivoting, the left foot turns out, the toes pointing southeast. With the left foot
touching the ground solidly, move the crotch in a shallow concave curve to shift
the weight onto the left leg. With the heel off the ground, the right foot twining di-
rectly arcs back and left on the inside ball to end inside the left one, the right heel
corresponding with the left. The left palm twining further reversely and the right
one further directly push left and forward in a concave curve. At the end of their
trajectory, the left palm faces left and forward (southeast), with the fingers pointing
up to the right front, level with the left shoulder, and the right one in front of the
abdomen, facing left, the fingers pointing forward, with the right elbow protruding,
leaving the armpit open. The eyes look left and forward. (Figure 22-1)
2. Relax the left hip joint, and turn the torso left. At the same time, with the
toes turned up and in, the right foot twining reversely steps right (southwest) on
the inside heel, the weight sinking low. The right palm twining directly thrusts up
to the left front, facing up; and the left one twining reversely descends in a convex
curve, with the base resting on the inside part of the right forearm, close to the el-
bow, facing right, the fingers pointing up. The left palm and the right forearm cross
in front of the chest, with the two elbows protruding. The eyes look right and for-
ward. (Figure 22-2)
