right knee. The fingers of both hands point up and left. With the toes turned up and
in, the left foot twining reversely slide-steps left (southwest) on the inside heel, the
weight sinking, the back remaining straight and baihui (GV20) gently pulled up.
The eyes look left and forward. (Figure 8-5)
7. Relax the right hip joint. Sink the right buttock and turn the left one, with
the torso turning right. At the same time, with the toes turned in, the left foot touch-
es the ground solidly. The left palm twining reversely rotates in to end in front of
the right shoulder, facing right, the fingers pointing up; and the right one twining
directly rotates in to rest below the right ear, facing down and left, with the fingers
pointing up and left. (Figure 8-6)

8. Relax the left hip joint, and turn the torso left, with the weight shifting
right. At the same time, the left palm twining reversely arcs out, down and left to
form a hook outside the left knee. The eyes look down and left. (Figure 8-7)
9. Turn the torso further left. At the same time, move the crotch slowly in a
shallow concave curve to shift the weight into a left-weighted, front bow-stance.
With the left shoulder sinking and the left elbow dropping, the left hook (wrist
leading) twining directly rises to pause at shoulder level, the left elbow aligning
with the left knee; and the right palm twining reversely presses down to the waist
level, and then pushes left and forward in a concave curve inside the left arm, to
rest at chest level. (Figure 8-8)
10. Relax the left hip joint, with the weight moving slightly right. At the same
time, the right palm sinks its base.
Without a pause, relax the right hip joint. Sink the right buttock and turn the
